ABOUT THE WINE
“Les Vergers” is sourced from certified organic vineyards just outside the Côte-Rôtie appellation, where Clusel-Roch farms young Syrah vines planted on schist-rich soils reminiscent of its more prestigious neighbor. Fermented with partial whole clusters and aged in used oak barrels, the 2019 vintage emphasizes aromatic complexity and finesse over sheer power.
This wine highlights the northern Rhône's cooler climate Syrah character—floral, spicy, and nuanced—with none of the heaviness often associated with southern Rhône blends. Its savory energy and purity make it a flexible companion to dishes like roast duck, lentil stew, or grilled eggplant with harissa yogurt.
ABOUT THE PRODUCER
Domaine Clusel-Roch is a small, family-run estate based in Ampuis, and among the pioneers of organic viticulture in Côte-Rôtie. Founded in the 1950s and guided today by Guillaume Clusel, the domaine is celebrated for its elegant, terroir-driven Syrahs crafted with minimal intervention and great respect for tradition.
The estate’s approach—hand-harvesting, low yields, native yeast fermentations, and restrained use of oak—prioritizes transparency of site and vintage. “Les Vergers” reflects this philosophy, offering a glimpse into Clusel-Roch’s meticulous craftsmanship and the refined potential of Syrah even outside its most famous crus.
