2019 La Spinetta Barbaresco "Vigneto Valeirano", Piedmont, Italy

Elegant and lifted, yet profoundly structured, the 2019 “Vigneto Valeirano” Barbaresco reveals a more vertical, mineral-driven expression of Nebbiolo. Aromas of wild cherry, dried rose, crushed herbs, and graphite unfold with finesse, underpinned by notes of anise, blood orange, and iron. On the palate, the wine is taut and energetic, with fine-grained tannins, vivid acidity, and a long, linear finish etched with spice and stone.

ABOUT THE WINE

The “Vigneto Valeirano” comes from a high-elevation site near Treiso, where cool mountain influences and limestone-rich soils shape one of the most refined and age-worthy expressions in La Spinetta’s Barbaresco lineup. The 2019 vintage, marked by ideal ripening conditions and a long growing season, delivers purity, balance, and power without excess weight. Grapes from 50–60-year-old vines are hand-harvested, fermented with native yeasts, and aged for 22 months in medium-toast French oak (50% new). The result is a wine of soaring aromatics and precise structure, balancing the delicacy of Treiso’s terroir with the depth and longevity expected of grand cru-level Nebbiolo. Valeirano is particularly suited for long cellaring and shines with slow-cooked game, porcini-laced pastas, or truffle-infused dishes.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER

La Spinetta, founded by the Rivetti family in the 1970s, has become one of Piedmont’s most influential modern estates, known for its unapologetically expressive, site-specific wines. Under the guidance of Giorgio Rivetti, the winery has consistently emphasized single-vineyard bottlings, low yields, organic farming, and minimalist intervention to showcase the full spectrum of Nebbiolo’s potential. While boldness and polish define their style, La Spinetta’s deep respect for terroir and tradition remains evident in every bottle. The “Vigneto Valeirano” is a standout among their crus—more restrained and vertical than its Starderi and Gallina siblings—offering a cerebral, age-worthy take on Barbaresco that reflects both place and producer with clarity and conviction.
