2020 Clusel-Roch Côtes-du-Rhône "Les Vergers", Rhône Valley, France

Refined yet expressive, the 2020 “Les Vergers” Rouge from Clusel-Roch is a northern Rhône Syrah with surprising depth and aromatic lift. Crushed blackberry, black pepper, wild herbs, and violets unfurl on the nose, leading to a silky, medium-bodied palate framed by fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity. The finish is long, savory, and subtly mineral, showcasing the wine’s elegant structure and northern Rhône pedigree.

ABOUT THE WINE

Sourced from organically farmed, hillside vineyards just south of Côte-Rôtie, the 2020 “Les Vergers” is 100% Syrah grown on schist soils, giving the wine its tension and aromatic precision. The grapes were partially fermented with whole clusters, and aging took place in neutral oak barrels to preserve varietal purity and freshness.

This vintage is marked by excellent balance—a touch riper than 2019, with slightly deeper fruit while maintaining clarity and lift. The wine’s floral spice, dark fruit core, and savory undertones make it ideal with roasted lamb, charred vegetables, or lentils with smoked sausage.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER

Clusel-Roch is a benchmark family estate located in Ampuis, at the heart of Côte-Rôtie. Since the 1980s, the Clusels have been at the forefront of organic viticulture in the northern Rhône, emphasizing low yields, traditional winemaking, and deep respect for their steep, labor-intensive vineyards.

Guillaume Clusel, now leading the domaine, continues the family’s philosophy of crafting Syrah with finesse, structure, and authenticity. “Les Vergers” is a gateway into their world—an unfiltered expression of northern Rhône Syrah that reflects the same craftsmanship and integrity found in their more prestigious bottlings.
