2020 François Carillon Bourgogne Côte d'Or Rouge, Burgundy, France
Notes of raspberries, morello cherries and pepper, a light wine, very pleasant, easy to drink now
ABOUT THIS WINE
The Bourgogne Pinot Noir comes from old vines over 60 years old located in Puligny-Montrachet and the hamlet of Corpeau, on clay-limestone soils. After total destemming and cold maceration, the musts are lightly punched out before settling and then piping in (10% new barrels). Fermentations and aging last an average of 12 months.
ABOUT THIS PRODUCER
The Carillon family has been making wine in Puligny-Montrachet in Burgundy since the 16th century. The logo currently in use was found on an engraved stone in 1632 in a cave of the village. The wines of Carillon have been for years in the elite of the great white wines of Burgundy. Dubbed by the critics and by prestigious restaurants as high quality, Domaine Carillon produces white wines which are racy, elegant and fruity while embodying perfectly the terroir whose Chardonnays come from.
With these 15 generations of farmers behind him, Francois Carillon has been working in the field since 1988 alongside his father and brother. His activity is mainly related to the cultivation of vines. Passionate about business, he always wanted to bring the highest quality and come closer to organic crops. Now separated from his brother, Francois Carillon is working with as much zeal and passion with a small team farming 6.5 hectares. This is a lovely Bourgogne Blanc emphasized with freshness, energy and vibrancy along with expressive, ripe fruit flavors of apple and pear. Floral notes pick up on the finish. Serve with shellfish, chicken, white fish and cheeses, such as Brie, Fromage d’Affinois and Delice de Bourgogne.
