2020 Masi "Costasera" Amarone Della Valpolicella, Veneto, Italy

A majestic and structured Amarone that embodies the twilight warmth of vineyards facing Lake Garda, the 2020 “Costasera” is rich, velvety, and deeply expressive. Concentrated aromas of ripe black cherry, plum compote, cocoa, and cinnamon unfold into flavors of dried fig, espresso, and baking spice. The palate is full-bodied and opulent, with velvety tannins, well-integrated alcohol, and balanced acidity that carries into a long, warming finish touched by licorice and bitter chocolate.

ABOUT THE WINE
The 2020 vintage of “Costasera” is a hallmark of Masi’s Amarone expertise, crafted using the traditional appassimento method: Corvina, Rondinella, and Molinara grapes are dried on bamboo racks during the winter months to concentrate sugars and complexity. Aged in Slavonian oak barrels and smaller Allier and cherry wood casks, the wine offers layered aromatics of macerated dark fruit, dried herbs, and subtle incense. The vineyard’s west-facing slope—la costa sera—receives more evening sunlight, resulting in richer phenolic ripeness and a deeper, fuller wine. This Amarone pairs beautifully with aged cheeses, braised meats, game, and rich risottos, and will evolve gracefully over the next decade.
