2020 Sedella "Laderas de Sedella Anfora", Sierras de Malaga, Spain
Wildly aromatic and deeply evocative of its rugged mountain origin, this amphora-aged red blends ancient-vine Romé and Garnacha in a wine of thrilling energy and textural finesse. Notes of crushed blackberries, dried herbs, blood orange, and smoky mineral unfold over a lean, lifted palate. Fine tannins, vibrant acidity, and a whisper of salinity drive a long, savory finish grounded in slate and Mediterranean garrigue.
ABOUT THIS WINE
“Laderas de Sedella Ánfora” is a singular expression of mountain viticulture in Andalucía, crafted from a field blend dominated by Romé and Garnacha sourced from centenarian bush vines planted between 700–1,000 meters elevation on steep, schist-laced slopes. Farmed biodynamically and harvested by hand, the fruit is handled with utmost care, reflecting the extreme terrain and heritage of this remote site in the Axarquía region of Málaga.
Fermentation is spontaneous with native yeasts, and the wine is aged in clay amphorae to preserve the raw purity of fruit and minerality while softening tannins without oak influence. The result is intensely aromatic yet restrained, with layered red and black fruit, dried rose, iron-rich earth, and wild mountain herbs. It’s both powerful and lifted—a wine that captures the tension between the harshness of the land and the elegance drawn from it. Enjoy it with grilled lamb, charred eggplant, or aged Manchego.
ABOUT THIS PRODUCER
Sedella Vinos is the passion project of winemaker Lauren Rosillo, who set out to revive and showcase the viticultural treasures of Málaga’s forgotten high-altitude vineyards. Located in the Sierra de la Axarquía, Sedella works exclusively with indigenous varieties grown on pre-phylloxera vines in extreme conditions: dizzyingly steep slopes, slate soils, and a Mediterranean-meets-mountain climate. The estate follows biodynamic practices, with a low-intervention philosophy in both vineyard and cellar. Rosillo's commitment to clay amphorae aging allows the purity of the site and varietals to shine through, resulting in wines that are as raw and honest as they are refined. Sedella’s work has brought new life to one of Spain’s oldest yet most overlooked wine regions, blending history, innovation, and natural harmony in every bottle.
