2021 Domaine Billard-Gonnet Bourgogne Côte d'Or Rouge, Burgundy, France

The 2021 vintage offers a return to classic Burgundy: bright red cherry, cranberry, and rose petal, framed by subtle spice and fine, silky tannins. It’s beautifully expressive right now, yet refined enough to reward a few years in the cellar.

ABOUT THIS WINE

Winemaking at Domaine Billard-Gonnet follows a classic, hands-on Burgundian tradition, emphasizing transparency and finesse over power. All grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted to ensure only the healthiest fruit makes it into the cellar.

Fermentations occur naturally with indigenous yeasts, allowing the wines to develop their own rhythm and individuality.  The wines are then aged for around 12 to 14 months in French oak barrels, with only a modest proportion of new oak (usually 10–20%) to maintain purity and freshness. The result is a Pinot Noir that feels both authentic and elegant — bright red fruit, floral aromatics, and silky texture balanced by the subtle earthiness that defines the Côte d’Or.

ABOUT THIS PRODUCER

Domaine Billard-Gonnet is a historic family estate located in the heart of Pommard, founded in the mid-19th century. For generations, the Billard family has tended the same gentle slopes that define the southern end of the Côte de Beaune, where Pinot Noir finds its most soulful expression. Today, the domaine is led by Philippe Billard-Gonnet, who continues his family’s legacy with quiet precision and heartfelt respect for Burgundy’s traditions.

Philippe embodies the essence of a true vigneron — deeply connected to his vines, hands-on in every detail, and devoted to letting the land speak through his wines. The domaine’s holdings extend around Pommard and Volnay, with parcels that combine limestone, marl, and clay soils, giving structure and depth to the wines while maintaining elegance and lift.
