2021 Movia Cabernet Sauvignon, Goriška Brda, Slovenia

A strikingly elegant expression of Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2021 Movia reveals the grape’s depth through a distinctly Brda lens—more herbal and mineral than plush. Aromas of blackcurrant, graphite, wild thyme, and dried rose rise from the glass. The palate is firm and structured with fine-grained tannins, fresh acidity, and a core of savory dark fruit, finishing long with notes of tobacco leaf and crushed stone.

ABOUT THE WINE
Grown on marl-rich slopes in Slovenia’s Goriška Brda—where Mediterranean sun meets Alpine influence—this Cabernet Sauvignon is farmed organically and harvested by hand. Fermented with native yeasts and aged in large oak barrels without fining or filtration, the wine shows the restraint and clarity that define Movia’s approach. While varietally true, it resists over-ripeness, focusing instead on purity of fruit and terroir expression. Notes of cassis, red plum, cedar, and a hint of green pepper emerge over time, supported by a linear structure and a persistent, mineral-driven finish. Best enjoyed with grilled meats, wild mushroom dishes, or aged hard cheeses.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER
Movia, a benchmark estate in Goriška Brda, traces its winemaking lineage back to 1820. Under the bold and uncompromising vision of Aleš Kristančič, Movia embraces biodynamic viticulture and minimal intervention winemaking to craft wines that are unfiltered, authentic, and deeply expressive of their origins. The estate’s vineyards straddle the Slovenia-Italy border, capturing the complexity of this unique crossroads. From skin-contact whites to soulful reds, Movia wines are philosophical in nature—never rushed, always evolving, and unapologetically themselves.
