2022 Bachelet-Monnot Pommard "Les Chanlins", Burgundy, France

A strikingly pure cool and airy nose is comprised by notes of the essence of red pinot fruit floral and discreet forest floor wisps. There is almost painful intensity to the chiseled and overtly stony medium weight flavors that possess excellent delineation on the refreshing moderately austere and focused finale.

ABOUT THIS WINE

Above and touches 1er Chanlins on the Volnay side of Pommard, just next to Rugiens. 40+ year old vines, grown on a very dangerous, steep parcel at 400m that is worked by hand. Red clay and chalk soil. 15% whole cluster, with indigenous yeast fermentation. Aged in barrel (15% new) before release.

ABOUT THIS PRODUCER

In 2005, brothers Marc and Alexandre Bachelet founded Bachelet-Monnot. In no time, their wines were turning the heads of even the most seasoned Burgundy tasters.

These are revelatory expressions of Burgundy. The amount of finesse and luminous mineral precision that they are able to tease out is astonishing.

The domaine is in Maranges, a village at the southern limit of the Côte de Beaune. In many ways, the brothers’ work there is the beating heart of the estate. However, they have holdings in some of the greatest sites throughout the Côte de Beaune: St. Aubin 1er Cru En Remilly, Puligny 1er Cru Referts, and Bâtard-Montrachet.

It’s amazing to see such exciting wines stretching from the margins to the pinnacle of Burgundy’s qualitative universe, from Bourgogne to Grand Cru. This is one of the emerging star domaines of Burgundy.
