2022 Cantine de Falco "Ottante" Primitivo, Salento, Puglia, Italy
Rich, ripe, and sun-drenched, the 2022 Ottante Primitivo from Cantine de Falco offers a bold yet balanced expression of Southern Italy’s signature red. Aromas of blackberry jam, black cherry, sweet spice, and dried herbs lead into a plush, full-bodied palate with velvety tannins, moderate acidity, and a warm, gently smoky finish. It's a generous and approachable Primitivo that captures the warmth of the Salento peninsula.
ABOUT THIS WINE
Made from 100% Primitivo grown in the sunbaked limestone and clay soils of Salento in southern Puglia, Ottante is named in honor of the winery’s founding year in the 1980s. The 2022 vintage was marked by hot, dry conditions that yielded ripe, concentrated fruit with excellent structure and intensity.
Grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness, fermented in stainless steel, and aged briefly in oak to round out the texture without overpowering the fruit. The wine shows layers of black plum, fig, cinnamon, and a touch of cocoa, with a supple, smooth mouthfeel and just enough freshness to keep it lifted.
