ABOUT THIS WINE

This Bourgogne Côte de Nuits-Villages comes from several well-situated parcels at the southern and northern edges of the Côte de Nuits, including vineyards in Brochon and Comblanchien—just outside the borders of prestigious appellations like Gevrey-Chambertin and Nuits-Saint-Georges. These sites benefit from limestone-rich soils and careful biodynamic farming (certified Demeter), giving the wine its clarity and structure.

The 2022 vintage offered ripe, healthy fruit with excellent natural balance. Michel Magnien vinifies this cuvée using native yeasts and partial whole-cluster fermentation, followed by aging in a combination of used oak barrels and clay amphorae to preserve freshness and aromatic purity. The result is a wine that combines bright red berry fruit with subtle earth and spice notes, supported by lively acidity and fine tannins.

Ideal with roast chicken, mushroom dishes, charcuterie, or grilled salmon. This is a wine to enjoy young for its vivid fruit, though it can age gracefully over the next 5–7 years.

ABOUT THIS PRODUCER

Domaine Michel Magnien is a family estate based in Morey-Saint-Denis, now led by Frédéric Magnien, the fifth generation in the lineage. Since 2015, the domaine has been fully biodynamic and certified by Demeter, making it one of the leading biodynamic producers in the Côte de Nuits. The estate owns parcels in some of Burgundy’s most revered vineyards, including Grand and Premier Crus, and applies the same level of care and precision across all tiers of its production.

Frédéric Magnien is known for his innovative use of amphorae alongside traditional oak barrels, aiming to showcase terroir without masking it. His wines are fermented with native yeasts, bottled without fining or filtration, and crafted with minimal sulfur. This Côte de Nuits-Villages bottling reflects the domaine’s philosophy: a commitment to purity, energy, and expressing the nuances of Burgundy’s varied terroirs—even in its more modest appellations.
