ABOUT THE WINE

“Le Point du Jour” is a characterful Cheverny Rouge made from a blend of Pinot Noir, Gamay, and a touch of Côt (Malbec), sourced from organically and biodynamically farmed vineyards in the Cheverny AOC, located in the eastern Loire Valley. The soils here—mostly sandy clay over limestone—contribute to the wine’s freshness and finesse. The 2022 vintage was warm yet balanced, producing ripe but vibrant fruit with great aromatic clarity.

Grapes are hand-harvested and fermented with indigenous yeasts, often using a portion of whole clusters to retain aromatic lift and structure. The wine is aged in a combination of tank and old barrels, preserving the purity of the fruit and enhancing its texture without adding overt oak character. No fining, no filtration, and minimal sulfur at bottling underscore Tessier’s commitment to natural winemaking.

The result is a red wine that’s delicate yet expressive, offering red berry brightness, subtle spice, and an earthy, slightly sauvage edge. Perfect with charcuterie, roast chicken, grilled vegetables, or lentil-based dishes, it also shines lightly chilled in warmer months.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER

Domaine Philippe Tessier, based in Cheverny, is one of the Loire’s most respected biodynamic growers and a leading advocate for authentic, terroir-driven wines. Founded in 1961 and now in the hands of Simon Tessier, the estate farms around 25 hectares of vines, all certified organic and biodynamic (Demeter). The domaine works with native grapes such as Romorantin, Menu Pineau, Gamay, Pinot Noir, and Côt, crafting wines that are lively, textural, and transparent.

Tessier’s philosophy is rooted in natural balance—minimal intervention in both vineyard and cellar, with careful attention to soil health and ecological diversity. “Le Point du Jour” is a vivid example of this approach: a wine that channels the energy of the vineyard and the clarity of its place with elegance and drinkability.

The 2022 vintage shows the domaine at its best—playful yet serious, joyful yet grounded, and unmistakably Loire.
