2022 Rottensteiner Pinot Grigio, Alto Adige, Italy
This Pinot Grigio is more complex, with more intense colour and notes of banana, vanilla and spices. It fits very well with fish, starters and white meat.
ABOUT THIS WINE
The vineyards for this Pinot Grigio grow in Branzollo and Frangarto, two villages in the South of Bolzano, one in the valley, the other one on a slight slope, at an altitude of 250 – 300 m. Another part comes from S. Giacomo in Sabbia next to Bolzano at 450 m and from Auna di Sotto at 600 m. In this way, the combination of sites provides a full-bodied, structured, but also minerally and elegant wine. After fermentation at 19°C, the Pinot Grigio maturates in stainless steel tanks. Extreme caution in the vinification makes the typical fruity notes pass from the grape to the wine.
ABOUT THIS PRODUCER
For over 50 years the Rottensteiner family have been continuing on the dream of their grandfather, Hans, in producing their own wine.
Founded in 1956, Hans’ focus was selling open wines from the winery to Switzerland. In the 1980’s, his son Toni changed over to marketing bottled wines, and since 2001 he has been supported by his grandson Hannes. Not only have the grapes from the family’s 10 hectares been processed from the onset, but also that of 50 regional grape growers as well. This close cooperation has extended for generations and is essentially responsible for the excellent quality of the wines.
They have been consciously committed to the varietal character of the particular wines with a clear focus on the Bolzano varieties Lagrein and St. Magdalener.
