2023 Brendan Stater-West Saumur Blanc, Loire Valley, France - 1.5L MAG
Linear, mineral, and quietly expressive, the 2023 Saumur Blanc from Brendan Stater-West in magnum format offers added depth and ageability. This Chenin Blanc opens with aromas of lemon peel, green apple, and chalk dust, followed by a racy, textured palate driven by limestone tension. The magnum accentuates the wine’s slow evolution and precise structure, making it ideal for both cellaring and large-format enjoyment.

ABOUT THE WINE
Sourced from organically farmed vineyards on Saumur’s iconic tuffeau limestone, this 100% Chenin Blanc is hand-harvested and gently pressed before fermenting with native yeasts in neutral French oak barrels. Aged on fine lees without bâtonnage and without malolactic fermentation, the 2023 vintage shows purity, grip, and lifted aromatics.
The wine delivers layers of citrus, pear skin, white flowers, and crushed stone, with a saline edge and firm, driving acidity. In magnum, the wine evolves more slowly, allowing its tightly wound core and mineral depth to reveal themselves over time. It’s a striking partner for seafood towers, aged goat cheese, or delicate poultry dishes with beurre blanc.
ABOUT THE PRODUCER
Brendan Stater-West is an Oregon-born former sommelier who has become one of the Loire Valley’s most compelling young producers. After apprenticing under Romain Guiberteau, he founded his own domaine in Saumur, crafting precise, terroir-driven Chenin Blancs with a focus on organic farming and minimal intervention. His wines are marked by clarity, structure, and subtle intensity—an elegant reflection of the region’s limestone soils.
