2023 Brookdale Estate Syrah “Mason Road”, Paarl, South Africa
A sleek, energetic Syrah with a cool-climate sensibility, the 2023 Mason Road is all about purity of fruit and spice-laced elegance. Vibrant aromas of black cherry, wild herbs, and cracked pepper lead into a juicy, medium-bodied palate layered with plum, red currant, and graphite. Fine tannins and bright acidity give the wine drive and lift, finishing with a savory twist of olive tapenade and violets.

ABOUT THIS WINE
Crafted from sustainably farmed Syrah vines grown on decomposed granite and shale soils in the cooler pockets of the Brookdale Estate, the 2023 Mason Road showcases a restrained, terroir-driven style. Hand-harvested and vinified with minimal intervention, the grapes are partially destemmed, naturally fermented, and aged in a mix of older oak barrels and concrete to preserve brightness and texture.
This vintage expresses Syrah’s more refined, aromatic side—more Northern Rhône than New World—with an emphasis on tension, floral lift, and spice over power. It’s a versatile red built for the table: exceptional with grilled lamb, roasted root vegetables, or North African-inspired dishes with warming spices.
