ABOUT THE WINE

Domaine Marquis d’Angerville’s Bourgogne Aligoté is sourced from estate vineyards in the Mâconnais and near Volnay, planted on clay-limestone soils ideal for preserving freshness and lift. Aligoté—Burgundy’s “other white grape”—thrives in these cooler, mineral-rich sites, and under Guillaume d’Angerville’s stewardship, the grape is treated with the same care and philosophy as the domaine’s revered Pinot Noirs.

In 2023, a relatively even growing season produced fruit with bright acidity, aromatic clarity, and moderate alcohol. The grapes were hand-harvested and gently pressed before fermenting with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel, emphasizing varietal purity. No oak is used, and malolactic fermentation is allowed, lending texture and balance without sacrificing vibrancy.

The wine is clean and expressive: notes of lemon blossom, crushed stone, and fresh-cut herbs accompany the citrus-dominated palate. Its linear profile, fine texture, and crisp acidity make it an excellent partner for oysters, chèvre, or summer salads—but it’s also a refreshing aperitif with real substance.

Certified biodynamic since 2006, the estate prioritizes soil health, biodiversity, and minimal intervention in both vineyard and cellar. Though best known for its Premier Cru Volnays and single-vineyard expressions, the domaine’s Aligoté reflects the same precision and philosophy—elevating a humble varietal into something worthy of serious attention.
