ABOUT THE WINE
Located in the southern reaches of Meursault, near the Volnay border, the Santenots vineyard is a Premier Cru climat more often associated with red wine—but in the hands of d’Angerville, this Chardonnay site produces white Burgundy of exceptional clarity and length. The soils here are shallow and stony, dominated by clay-limestone, which contributes both texture and mineral lift.
In 2023, a balanced growing season yielded fruit of bright acidity and ripe phenolic maturity. The Chardonnay was hand-harvested and pressed gently before fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Aging took place in French oak barrels (around 20% new), with minimal bâtonnage and no excess wood influence, preserving the vineyard's natural vibrancy and structure.
On the palate, the wine is simultaneously generous and tightly coiled—layers of lemon oil, pear, and almond cream are cut by laser-like acidity and a pronounced saline, stony finish. The integration of oak is seamless, offering support without overt richness. With air, subtle floral and spice notes emerge, hinting at long-term aging potential. Ideal pairings include lobster, scallops in beurre blanc, or creamy poultry dishes.
ABOUT THE PRODUCER
Domaine Marquis d’Angerville is one of the most celebrated names in Burgundy, known for its deep roots in Volnay and for championing site-specific, biodynamically farmed wines that express precision and purity. Under Guillaume d’Angerville’s leadership, the estate has maintained its reputation for classicism while thoughtfully expanding into white wines, including this Meursault Santenots.
Certified biodynamic since 2006, the domaine emphasizes balance in the vineyard and restraint in the cellar. Every decision—from gentle extraction to low new oak usage—is made with transparency and longevity in mind.
Though renowned for its Pinot Noir, the domaine’s whites are increasingly seen as insider gems: wines of structure, finesse, and aging capacity. The 2023 Santenots is no exception—it captures both the intensity of Meursault and the linear elegance that defines d’Angerville’s house style. A Premier Cru white Burgundy for purists.
