2023 Edi Simčič “Triton” White Blend, Goriška Brda, Slovenia
Quite gentle on the nose, nicely open and ripe. Fruity notes like ripe peaches are dominant, including a touch of sweet spices like cinnamon. Dry on the palate, with oily texture, and pleasant feel.

ABOUT THIS WINE
Triton, an allusion to the Adriatic sea breezes sweeping over Brda, is the estate’s white blend. It draws on three indigenous and local varieties—sauvignonasse (another term for Friulano), rebula, and malvazija—sourced from vineyards in Vipolže, Kozana, and Fojana. Vineyards are planted in Opoka, a unique blend of marl, sandstone and limestone soils. The wine is fermented with a native pied de cuve and aged 11 months in French oak barriques (10–15% new), followed by 6 months in bottle. The cool, damp 2023 vintage brings freshness and energy with notes of white peach, dried tarragon, a squeeze of grapefruit pith, and a sea breeze finish. Around 2,600 bottles produced.
ABOUT THIS PRODUCER
The Simčič family had been farming the hills of Goriška Brda decades before Edi and his wife Marica bottled their first vintage in 1989. Today, their son Aleks and grandsons Jure and Jakob tend 13 hectares of steep, sun-drenched slopes across three villages, farming sustainably on the region’s signature opoka soils featuring layers of calcareous sandstone, marl, and clay that lend a distinctive salinity. Yields average just 700 grams per vine, around a half-bottle per plant.
