2023 Peay Vineyards Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast, California, USA

On the nose you’ll find a compelling mix of red and purple fruits along with floral and earthy accents—think wild raspberry, pomegranate, lavender, rose petal, mint, orange peel, cherry pipe tobacco, and underbrush—that tease the wine’s layered character. The palate is medium-bodied, with finely integrated tannins and crisp, nervy acidity, offering flavors of tart red fruit, citrus brightness, cinnamon bark, pine needles, pencil shavings, and a minerally finish that stays persistent and lifted.

ABOUT THIS WINE

Peay Vineyards’ 2023 Pinot Noir from the West Sonoma Coast is a beautifully expressive, estate-grown cuvée that captures the cool-climate personality of its ridge-top vineyard, perched above a river gorge just four miles from the Pacific Ocean. Production for this vintage includes 99% destemmed fruit, aged for 11 months on lees in about 20–28% new French oak, bottled unfined and unfiltered, with an alcohol level around 13–13.7%.

ABOUT THIS PRODUCER

Established in the late ’90s by first-generation vintners Nick Peay, Vanessa Wong, and Andy Peay, the family practices organic viticulture, fish-friendly farming, biodiesel and solar power use, and selects from a mix of clonal plantings—all to create wines of purity, intensity, and focus. The 2023 vintage—Peay’s signature Sonoma Coast blend—combines fruit from most of their estate blocks, showcasing elegance, complexity, bright aromatics, and true approachability
