2024 Brendan Stater-West Saumur Blanc, Loire Valley, France
Tense, mineral, and finely sculpted, the 2024 Saumur Blanc from Brendan Stater-West delivers a vibrant expression of Chenin Blanc rooted in limestone. Aromas of lemon zest, green pear, and chalk unfold into a taut, focused palate with bracing acidity and a clean, saline finish. A wine of quiet precision and clarity, it’s as compelling on its own as it is at the table.

ABOUT THE WINE
Made from 100% Chenin Blanc, this cuvée comes from organically farmed vineyards in Saumur, grown on classic tuffeau limestone soils. The 2024 vintage offered a cool, even growing season that preserved freshness and aromatic detail. Grapes are harvested by hand, then gently pressed and fermented with native yeasts in neutral barrels. The wine ages on its lees without bâtonnage, and malolactic fermentation is intentionally blocked to retain acidity and focus.
On the nose, it shows citrus peel, crisp orchard fruit, and crushed stone, with a hint of white tea. The palate is lean and linear, with a textured, mineral core and a saline lift on the finish. It’s a natural match for oysters, Loire goat cheese, or roasted root vegetables.
