ABOUT THE WINE
This 2024 Chillable Red is made from 100% Grenache, sourced from an 8‑year‑old bush‑vine parcel on decomposed granite soils on the slopes of Groenberg Mountain in the Wellington appellation. The grapes were hand‑picked and processed in three separate components: a portion was direct‑pressed in a Blanc de Noir style, the bulk fermented as a traditional skin‑fermented red, and a third portion underwent 24‑hour skin contact and a saignée‑style juice draw‑off. Natural (indigenous‑yeast) fermentation for 14‑18 days, followed by malolactic fermentation, then aged for 9 months in older French oak vats (2,600 L) with no new oak. Aromatically it presents red cherries, raspberries and a hint of fresh herbs; on the palate the texture is light‑to‑medium bodied, soft tannins, vibrant acidity and a finish that stays clean and refreshing. Suggested to serve lightly chilled. Pair with grilled salmon or light‑spiced tapas, summer fried chicken, or charcuterie.
ABOUT THE PRODUCER
Lalela is a project founded by Natasha Williams and Wade Sander, based in the Western Cape of South Africa, focused on sourcing exceptional fruit and reflecting the heritage, people and land of the Cape Winelands. Their ethos emphasises sustainable farming, working with growers (including historically under‑represented communities) and minimal‑intervention winemaking to allow site and varietal to speak. The Chillable Red is part of this broader expression of place and philosophy—light, approachable, yet terroir‑driven.
