ABOUT THE WINE

The 2024 “Meltemi” is crafted from 50% Aidani Mavro (a rare indigenous red variety) and 50% Mandilaria, both native to the Cyclades. Sourced from organically farmed vines rooted in Paros’s volcanic and limestone soils, the grapes are hand-harvested and gently pressed. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel to preserve freshness, followed by a brief rest on fine lees for added texture. The result is a vivid, dry rosé with lifted aromatics, zesty acidity, and a whisper of salinity. Named after the Meltemi wind that cools the Aegean during Greece’s hot summers, this wine is a natural pairing with grilled octopus, tomato-based dishes, or feta-laced mezze platters.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER

Moraitis Winery, founded in 1910 and now in its fourth generation, is a benchmark estate on the island of Paros. Led by winemaker Theodoros Moraitis, the domaine is dedicated to showcasing indigenous Cycladic varieties through certified organic viticulture, low-intervention winemaking, and deep respect for local tradition. Located in Naoussa, just steps from the Aegean, the winery’s vineyards benefit from cooling sea winds and poor, rocky soils that naturally limit yields. Moraitis is widely regarded for reviving and preserving the native grapes of Paros—including Aidani Mavro and Mandilaria—through wines like “Meltemi,” which offer a true taste of the island’s rugged beauty and maritime soul.
