This is a seated tasting limited to 12 people starting promptly at 6:00 pm in our Salon de Dégustation located at 5920 Roswell Road, Suite B108 in Sandy Springs. We will be serving 6 wines + cheese and Charcuterie.
ABOUT THE WINERY
Kopke is the world's oldest Port wine house, founded in 1638 by Nicolau Kopke, a German diplomat who settled in Portugal as Consul General of the Hanseatic League. Two years after his arrival, he began exporting wine from the Douro Valley to Northern Europe, establishing a legacy that predates the region's official demarcation for wine production.
Initially a wine-shipping company, Kopke transitioned into wine production in 1781 with the acquisition of a farm in the Douro Valley. The company gradually shifted focus to Port wine, becoming a significant producer in the region. In 1922, Kopke acquired Quinta de São Luiz, a historic estate in Tabuaço, which has since become the center of its winemaking operations. The estate spans 125 hectares, with 94 hectares under cultivation, featuring some of the oldest vineyards in the Douro Valley.
Kopke is renowned for its exceptional Colheita Ports, and maintains an extensive library of aged Ports, some dating back several decades.
