A radiant and approachable expression of Barolo, the 2021 "Albe" offers a vivid, multilayered profile with a balance of tradition and accessibility. Aromas of dried cherry, rose petal, orange peel, and sweet spices rise from the glass, while the palate reveals vibrant red fruits, licorice, and a hint of savory earth. ABOUT THIS WINE

"Albe" is G.D. Vajra’s tribute to the varied altitudes and exposures of Barolo’s celebrated slopes. Crafted from fruit harvested across three distinct high-elevation vineyards—Coste di Vergne, Fossati, and La Volta—this cuvée captures the freshness and elegance that define Vajra’s house style. Fermentation takes place with native yeasts in stainless steel and Slavonian oak, followed by 26 months of aging in large barrels, allowing for gentle integration of tannin and nuance. The 2021 vintage reflects a cooler growing season, which emphasized purity of fruit, lifted aromatics, and natural tension.

The wine's bouquet is classical yet vivid, with notes of cranberry, raspberry, dried herbs, violets, tar, and crushed stone. On the palate, it walks a fine line between Barolo's inherent structure and a more immediate charm, making it ideal for early enjoyment or medium-term aging. Best paired with truffle dishes, roasted game, or mushroom risotto.

ABOUT THIS PRODUCER

G.D. Vajra is a benchmark family estate based in Vergne, the highest commune in Barolo, known for producing wines of grace, detail, and integrity. Founded in the 1970s by Aldo Vajra, the winery was among the early adopters of organic farming in the region, a philosophy still upheld by the Vajra family today. They emphasize minimal intervention, native yeast fermentation, and traditional aging methods. The estate’s commitment to expressing site and varietal character has earned it widespread acclaim. With vineyards at elevations reaching 400 meters, G.D. Vajra captures the tension between Alpine freshness and Barolo’s depth, resulting in wines that are as soulful as they are precise.
