ABOUT THIS PRODUCER
The vineyards form the heritage, the beating heart of Bruna Grimaldi Azienda Agricola. Bruna and Franco have always believed in this land and, with hard work and dedication, in the past 20 years have bought plots in different municipalities in the Barolo area, all of them being well suited to the Nebbiolo and Barbera vines.
Their winery owns 15 hectares planted with vines, divided between small and large plots. The fragmentation of the vineyards is one of the strengths of our business because it allows them to offer high quality from the different terroirs that make up the Langhe where microclimates, soils and exposures conveys important and unique characteristics to the wines.
The Grimaldi family has always farmed uniquely indigenous grape varieties: Arneis, a very old native grape to this region and the only white grape of our winery; Dolcetto, Barbera and Nebbiolo are the red grapes. These grape varieties are spread over different villages in the Barolo region and the neighboring municipalities.
ABOUT THE WINES
2019 Bruna Grimaldi Barolo "Badarina", Piedmont, Italy - Badarina is the symbol of our family. It is the expression of the power and minerality that characterize the terroir of Serralunga d’Alba. Here, a unique microclimate and terroir require more time for the Nebbiolo to ripe. The resulting wine is a Barolo of extraordinary complexity which is distinguished by the intensity of the aromas and the great structure.
2019 Bruna Grimaldi Barolo "Camilla", Piedmont, Italy - Grapes are harvested by hand in plastic crates between the end of September and the end of October. In the months before the harvest, clusters are selected carefully and are picked when the phenolic ripeness is at its best. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled tanks and is combined with long skin-contact maceration which last 20-30 days, sometimes with submerged cap management. Malolactic fermentation is carried out in stainless steel and concrete tanks. The wine is aged in big Slavonian oak barrels and French oak tonneaux for minimum 24-30 months. The wine is bottled during the summer and ages in bottle before being released.
2019 Bruna Grimaldi Barolo "Bricco Ambrogio", Piedmont, Italy - Bricco Ambrogio is a Barolo of great elegance. This plot has a perfect exposure to the sun and a hot microclimate where Nebbiolo clusters are always picked earlier and can differentiate themselves in the rainier and cooler vintages.
