NV Bérêche Et Fils Brut Réserve, Champagne, France

An archetype of grower Champagne and a benchmark for the category, Brut Réserve offers thrilling depth and energy in a finely balanced, terroir-driven style. The nose unfolds with crisp orchard fruit, lemon zest, fresh almonds, and hints of white flowers, underpinned by a chalky mineral thread. On the palate, it's racy and textured, delivering layers of green apple, quince, and subtle toast. The mousse is vibrant yet fine, with brisk acidity carrying through to a long, saline finish.

ABOUT THE WINE

The Brut Réserve is Bérêche’s flagship cuvée and a masterclass in blending precision with site expression. It is composed of approximately one-third each Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Meunier, sourced from estate-owned vineyards in Ludes (Montagne de Reims), Ormes (Petite Montagne), and Mareuil-le-Port (Vallée de la Marne). A significant portion of the blend comes from a perpetual reserve started in 1985, lending nuance and continuity to the wine.

Fermentation takes place in oak barrels with indigenous yeasts, and the wine undergoes élevage in barrel for 10 months before bottling. Malolactic fermentation is typically blocked to preserve freshness and tension. Disgorged after 2–3 years on the lees, the wine is finished with a low dosage (~6 g/L), highlighting its purity and structure. Farming is organic with biodynamic principles, and all vineyards are worked by hand.

A superbly versatile Champagne, Brut Réserve pairs beautifully with oysters, roast chicken, aged cheeses, or simply as an apéritif to open a meal with finesse.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER

Founded in 1847 and now led by Raphaël and Vincent Bérêche, this family-run domaine has become one of Champagne’s most respected grower-producers. From their base in Ludes, the brothers have elevated the estate by emphasizing single-vineyard bottlings, rigorous farming, and traditional methods such as aging under cork instead of crown cap for secondary fermentation—adding complexity and finesse.

Their vineyard work is meticulous: no herbicides, organic treatments, biodynamic practices, and cover cropping to enhance soil vitality. In the cellar, Raphaël and Vincent are committed to natural fermentations, barrel aging, and minimal intervention—producing Champagnes of incredible clarity, structure, and character.

Bérêche’s Brut Réserve captures their philosophy perfectly: a wine that expresses place, tradition, and the thoughtful evolution of Champagne in the hands of growers.
