Louis Barruol is a celebrated French winemaker best known as the owner and driving force behind Château de Saint-Cosme, one of the most historic and respected estates in Gigondas, in the southern Rhône Valley. Coming from a family with more than five centuries of winemaking heritage, Barruol took over the estate from his father and has since elevated its international reputation through a mix of tradition and innovation. His approach is deeply rooted in the idea of expressing terroir — the unique character of the land — through minimal intervention and meticulous vineyard management. He is known for using whole-cluster fermentation, native yeasts, and careful aging in oak to create wines of great purity, depth, and energy.
Beyond Gigondas, Barruol has expanded his winemaking ventures to include Château de Rouanne in Vinsobres, another Rhône appellation where he is revitalizing old vineyards and crafting expressive, elegant reds that showcase the potential of the region. His curiosity and ambition have also taken him across the Atlantic to the Finger Lakes in New York, where he co-founded Forge Cellars. There, he applies his Old World sensibilities to cool-climate varieties like Riesling and Pinot Noir, exploring how terroir expresses itself in a very different environment.
This seated tasting is limited to 16 people, will start promptly at 6:00 pm at our Westside location, and lasts about 90 minutes.
