Gönc Winery - Štajerska, Slovenia

Gönc Winery is a small, family-run estate from Slovenia’s Štajerska region. It’s one of those producers you fall for once and never forget. The Gönc family has been making wine since 1936, and today Peter Gönc carries that history forward with a ton of heart and personality. You can feel it in everything they do, from the 136 dots on each label (a tribute to the old 136-liter “gönc” barrel that inspired the winery’s name) to the rock-and-roll energy in the cellar, where classic music fuels the winemaking. Farming is organic and hands-off, sulfites are kept low, and the wines are allowed to be expressive, alive, and a little wild in the best way. Gönc wines always feel honest and soulful. They are rooted in tradition, but playful, creative, and impossible not to love once you’ve spent time with them. This is a wine maker that I have fallen in love with this year and definitely one I recommend frequently!

Cheers,
